KORE Digital Health Therapeutics integrates MyHealthyGut app to build robust enterprise solution for digestive health

When MyHealthyGut launched in 2016, it was the first-of-its kind app designed to help those dealing with digestive issues, starting with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. This innovative tool came out of the gate swinging, winning accolades from Healthline as one of the top gut health apps of 2017. It was also downloaded by thousands of people looking for solutions to their gut health challenges.

KORE Digital Health Therapeutics (formerly WholeLife HealthTech) was selected as one of the top 50 innovative health startups by Interface Health Challenge for its approach to health and enterprise vision. As KORE Digital Health Therapeutics launches its enterprise solution, with MyHealthy Gut as an integrated tool to allow users to track and tackle their gut health issues, these award-winning technologies come together.

The MyHealthyGut app was the result of a year of development time and a synergistic collaborative effort between University of Calgary researcher Justine Dowd, Registered Dietitian Desiree Nielsen and KORE Digital Health Therapeutics CEO and Founder, Darlene Higbee Clarkin. These three women set a goal to develop an evidence-based app for celiac disease that did more than just point people to gluten-free foods or gluten-free options for dining out – they wanted a solution that would lead people to manage their own digestive health, as well as provide users with data and advice to help them find solutions and treatment for their digestive issues.

The resulting app delivered just that.

The information within the app was vetted by a team of healthcare practitioners and researchers committed to an excellent standard of care, and the MyHealthyGut team conducted in-depth focus groups and a clinical research study with more than 100 adults who suffer from celiac disease. This user feedback was applied to ongoing research and product enhancements.

The app was set up to act like a “dietitian in your pocket”, giving users access to meal preparation tools, advice on dietary supplements, and science-based information to research and understand their condition. The app features a list of the top 25 foods that best support digestive health, and the top 50 safe foods for celiac and gluten intolerance, and contains a searchable database of over 1000 foods flagged from “safe”, to “potentially unsafe/contaminated”, to “foods to avoid”.

It also contains:

  • Recommendations for dietary supplements to help alleviate symptoms.
  • Shareable grocery lists organized by grocery aisle for easy shopping
  • Recipe and meal planning tools, with recipes designed by celebrity chefs.
  • An interactive journaling tool that helps users identify symptom triggers. The journaling tool is particularly innovative, as it allows data to be compiled and emailed directly to a dietitian or healthcare provider to assist in treatment and prevention.

Dietitian and app collaborator Desiree Nielsen had this to say, “Healthy eating is difficult for anyone, but to totally transform your diet takes support. For the cost of a fancy coffee, this app provides more information than a dietitian could ever provide in a one-hour session.”

The success, positive outcomes and feedback garnered by the MyHealthyGut app and the integration into KORE Digital Health Therapeutics platform (a robust enterprise solution that gives organizations the ability to implement proven digestive health therapeutic programs across their user groups) offers access to easy-to-use education, health and lifestyle tools to empower people with knowledge about their gut health and nutrition. It is the ideal solution for people to effectively monitor and manage symptoms, and provides a huge benefit for organizations wanting to reduce health care costs, reduce sick days and increase productivity.

The future of KORE is exciting, with additional digital digestive health programs on the horizon for integration, as well as new features and tools planned to give additional support to those dealing with a wide range of digestive health issues. KORE Digital Health Therapeutics future plans also include expanding to provide condition-specific advice for people living with IBS, Crohn’s and Colitis, colon cancer and more.
